The St James Café is one of our most vibrant projects to date. Having undergone some work in the summer of 2020 the Café had bright white walls, neutral furniture and a rather corporate, day-time aesthetic despite the space being largely used for live music and evening events. We were asked by St James to look at the space and see what we could do to help the charity. The giant ceiling height and stunning views allowed us to use bold patterns and vibrant colours as much as we wanted to.
We were massively inspired by the ideas of old smoking lounges and how to mix this aesthetic with modern design. The Osborne and Little wallpaper set into frames on the wall became our focal point for the space with all the colours and textures used, referencing this wallpaper in one way or another. The space facing the stage is painted in a bright emerald green that makes it almost feel as if the trees outside the windows are growing into the space. A living wall above the bar also reflects the outside foliage and adds some stunning texture to the space.
Around the corner is the darker, cosy space. A deep purple on the walls compliments the dark leather sofas and a gallery wall covered with St James memorabilia. Brass and wooden accents help accentuate the warm lighting and maximalism in this space. If you would like to visit this space in person, please keep an eye out for upcoming events at St James on their website
From our first consultation with Clermont Interiors we know we were in safe hands. As a charity looking after a large and much loved venue, we needed to find the balance between upgrading the interior and maintaining the St James people knew and loved. Both Claire and Maisie took time to explain their reasoning and really took us on the ‘journey’ with them. Three years down the line they are still the people we talk to before we reach for a paint brush, or when we need anything refurbished or replaced. Clermont Interiors have also been responsible for the temporary decoration and many of our larger events, another area they have excelled at. - Jon Bisson, Director, St James Guernsey
